About

Four years of getting out of the reader's way.

Every project below went through the same process: typesetting, style sheet, proofing pass, and platform-specific export — whether it landed on Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, Lulu, or a local print house.

I'm Yasmin Sardar, the typesetter behind Margin & Fold. I format book interiors and prepare print- and ebook-ready files for independent authors, publishers, and small presses — the part of publishing that happens quietly, after the writing and before the reading.

I started in editorial design, laying out magazines and exhibition catalogues before moving into book production full time. Fiction, poetry, memoir, illustrated work, academic manuscripts — the genres change, but the job is always the same: build a page the reader never has reason to notice.

I work from a small studio, take on a limited number of projects at a time, and stay involved from the first sample chapter through final upload. No hand-offs, no subcontracting — the person who quotes your project is the person who formats it.

Typography that draws attention to itself has usually failed at its actual job.

Why work with me

A short version of a long path.

Fifteen years across editorial design, print production, and self-publishing support.

2021

Editorial design

Layout and production for magazines and cultural publications — where I learned to treat a grid as a promise to the reader.

2022

First independent author project

Formatted a debut poetry collection for KDP. Realized how much of self-publishing hinges on details no one teaches you.

2023

Margin & Fold founded

Turned book formatting into a dedicated studio practice, with a documented, repeatable production workflow.

2024

Expanded into illustrated and academic work

Added image-heavy layouts, footnote and citation handling, and complex front/back matter to the regular workload.

2025 - 2026

Expanded into illustrated and academic work

Added image-heavy layouts, footnote and citation handling, and complex front/back matter to the regular workload.

Tools of the trade

Built with a professional workflow.

Every file is produced with software built for print and digital publishing — not improvised in a word processor.

What I hold to

Three commitments on every project.

01

Read before I design

I read the manuscript before touching the grid, so typographic choices come from the text, not a template.

02

One point of contact

You work directly with me from quote to delivery — no account managers, no rotating designers.

03

Files that pass the first time

Every export is checked against the platform's actual requirements before it reaches you.

Book interior formatting

Send me your manuscript and your publishing plan.

Typical turnaround: 2–4 weeks, depending on manuscript length and revisions.
